Animal Control / Dog Licenses

Coastal Animal Control Services (formerly called Cowichan Valley Animal Shelter) provides animal control services and pound facilities to the Town of Ladysmith. Coastal Animal Control is located at 2202 Herd Road, Duncan, BC, and can be reached toll free at 1-888-811-7722. Emergency Services are available on a 24-hour basis.

It is mandatory for all dogs over the age of 4 months to be licensed yearly in the Town of Ladysmith. Dog licenses are available at City Hall during regular office hours, and also at Little Rascals Pet Store (416 1st Avenue).

The current fees are assessed as follows:

  Jan.1st - Jan. 31st Feb.1st to Dec.31st
Neutered / Spayed $20 $30
Not Neutered or Spayed $30 $40

No Dogs Allowed In:

Transfer Beach Park (below deKoninck Way, Amphitheatre, Beach Front & playground area); Kinsmen Park (formerly Brown Drive); High Street Park; Lions Park; Holland Creek Ball Park (field); Harbourview Park; Little League Park (field); Bob Stuart Park; Root Street Park; Aggie Fields and Aggie Playground area.

Dogs Allowed On Leash:

Arboretum; Holland Creek Ball Park (spectator stands area only); Aggie Field (spectator stands area only); Davis Road Park; Little League Park (spectator stands area only) ; Queens Park; municipal boulevards; Stonewall Park.

Dogs Allowed In Control Off Leash:

Transfer Beach Park (above deKoninck Way); Arbutus Ridge Trail; Gourlay-Janes Park; Mackie Park; Holland Creek Trail.

Removal Of Pet Feces:

Owners are requested to remove their pet's feces and dispose of properly in those Municipal parks and boulevards where animals are allowed.

As per Town of Ladysmith Dog Licensing, Control and Pound Bylaw 1995, No. 1155 Amendment Bylaw 2005 No. 1554, leash requirements vary for restricted dogs (Pit Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, English Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier).
