Utilities (Water & Sewer)

In the event of an emergency involving water, sewer or drainage, please call the Public Works 24-hour phone line at (250) 741-3373.

Sewer & Drainage

The Public Works Department oversees operations related to sewer & drainage, including:

  • Sewer Treatment
  • Sewer Main Repair
  • Lift Station Maintenance
  • Sewer Main Flushing

Any concerns with plugged sewer services are the responsibility of the property owner. If the service is collapsed on the Town side of the property, Town crews will replace the service to the property line. Any problems with the main are the responsibility of the Town and should be reported to (250) 245-3995.

Water

The Town obtains its water from two sources, Holland Creek and Stocking Lake.
The existing water supply system has the capacity to provide quality drinking water to a population of up to 15,000. Water is a very precious resource, and therefore the Town is taking several measures to encourage citizens to reduce consumption, including:

  • Implementation of water restrictions during the dry season;
  • Installation of water meters at all residents and businesses to help determine and repair any leaks in the system and to monitor excess consumption;
  • Distribution of educational water wise mail-outs to all households;
  • Implementation of new regulations making low-flow toilets mandatory in all new construction and renovations;
  • Installation of low-flow toilets in all municipal facilities; and
  • Undertaking capital upgrades to the water supply system (construction of new covered reservoir)
