Town of Ladysmith recruiting residents for new committee

Are you passionate about Ladysmith's heritage? A small business champion who is enthusiastic about economic development? How about an experienced tradesperson or architect interested in sharing your knowledge?

The Town of Ladysmith is recruiting seven engaged citizens to be part of our new Community Planning Advisory Committee - providing feedback to development applicants, as well as advice to Council on land use policies, regulations and initiatives, including heritage matters.

Citizen participation on this exciting new committee will represent a broad range of skills in areas such as development economics; social issues, including housing; preservation and restoration of heritage buildings; urban design and landscape architecture; and environmental protection and climate change.

"We are looking for local residents with a diverse set of skills to make a real contribution to the face of our community," said Mayor Aaron Stone. "You could have the opportunity to advise Council on matters ranging from Official Community Plan and zoning, to heritage and new developments."  If this sounds like your kind of opportunity, we want to hear from you.

The CPAC will be supported by a staff liaison from the Development Services Department as well as a member of Council.  Both of these positions are non-voting roles and will serve to facilitate conversations and guide any committee recommendations back to Council.

Terms of Reference for the CPAC were drafted following a Committee and Commission Review completed in 2018 and approved by Council.

The new committee's oversight will incorporate some of the work previously done by the Advisory Planning Commission, Advisory Design Panel and Heritage Revitalization Advisory Commission.

If the CPAC seems like a good fit for you, the Terms of Reference and application forms are available here:  https://www.ladysmith.ca/city-hall/careers-volunteering/volunteer-opportunities.  Or, drop by City Hall to pick up an information package.  Please send us your completed application form by 4:00pm on Friday, May 24, 2019, as follows:
