Holland Creek Trail loop to reopen June 30

The Town of Ladysmith is pleased to inform the community that the Holland Creek Trail loop will fully reopen by June 30, 2023.

The developer, Lamont Land LP, has provided an updated schedule to the Town indicating the installation of the arch culvert assembly, as well as the two pedestrian tunnels, are now all complete.

The final major components of the project involve backfilling and construction of the mechanically stabilized earth walls.  Regrading of the trails and stream embankment restoration will also be completed by the contractor in this phase.

Ladysmith Council recently had the opportunity to tour the project site and view the progress to-date on the crossing.

“Thank you to community members and visitors to Ladysmith for your patience and understanding during this extended closure to our beloved trail system,” said Mayor Aaron Stone.   “We can now collectively share in the excitement as the completion of the project and full reopening of the Holland Creek loop draws closer in time for summer.”

During the building of the crossing, the Town attempted to work with the developer to facilitate either the early reopening of the trail prior to project completion, or a bypass around the site.   However, these options were not achievable due to the requirement to ensure public safety.

Beyond June 30, the contractor will continue with the upper utility installation and final inspection into mid-August.
