Council Notebook for June 6, 2023

Ladysmith Council held a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, with the adoption of the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan among the agenda highlights.

At the start of the meeting, Quentin Goodbody, President of the Ladysmith & District Historical Society, provided an operational update to Council.

He summarized the Society's many initiatives and accomplishments over the past year and noted that the Society would like to have discussions with the Town regarding financing for the Museum and Archives, updating the Heritage Strategic Plan and expanding the Heritage Register.

Council expressed their appreciation for the presentation and thanked Goodbody and all the LDHS volunteers for their work in the community.

Next, Mayor Stone proclaimed June 19-25, 2023, as "Island Good Days" in Ladysmith – an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Island Good producers and manufacturers to our local economy and community.

Moving on, Council adopted the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, which includes its priorities for Core Infrastructure, the Waterfront Area Plan, Economy, and Official Community Plan Implementation.

The Strategic Plan builds on the Town’s new Official Community Plan and identifies priorities that support the community’s vision expressed in this document.

The Strategic Plan will be published online and print copies available soon at our administrative offices.

Next, Council confirmed its support for submitting the OCP Review Project for a Union of BC Municipalities 2023 Community Excellence Award.

The next meeting of Council is June 20, 2023.
