Ladysmith is a charming small town with a thriving economy, vibrant downtown and picturesque waterfront, whose welcoming neighbourhoods reflect the quality of our citizens.
The full reopening of 4th Avenue at the Rocky Creek dip is drawing closer as we anticipate paving the road next week, weather permitting.
The Town would like to thank neighbourhood residents and Forrest Field users for their continued patience as we enter this final stretch of the project.
Our tentatively scheduled date for paving the road is Thursday, November 14, after which we will paint the pavement markings and look to reopen 4th Avenue to motorists by the weekend.
The culvert replacement is an important infrastructure project for the Town as we work to withstand the impacts of climate change.
Rigorous planning and engineering work that took place before shovels went into the ground last October means the built infrastructure at Rocky Creek can withstand higher stream flows and increased debris in the event of a major storm event.
Fortis BC has been on site this week reconnecting the gas main.
The servicing is a significant step in moving the project forward and is necessary before we can resurface the road.
In recent weeks the contractor has backfilled around the new culvert and the site was prepared for resurfacing. We have also now reconnected the water main that runs through this area.
Sidewalks, curb and gutter and barriers are going to be installed leading up to the final days of the project.
Motorists accessing the McKinley--Churchill bypass route are asked to continue using caution and obey the 30 km/h posted speed limit along nearby residential streets, and 20 km/h along the gravel road.
