Town's Development Services department accepting new building applications

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town's Development Services team is ready to assist with all of your building enquires as we serve the community virtually and are open for business.

The public is asked to follow the guidelines outlined below to direct your questions and submissions to the appropriate staff person. 

Completed building permit, subdivision and development applications can all be submitted electronically, sent by mail or left in the drop box at the front door of City Hall.

Fees will only be accepted as a cheque or money order payable to the Town of Ladysmith and delivered through the mail or left in the City Hall drop box.

Applicants with Town business related to Development Services are asked to follow the processes below:

  • Fees and paper applications can be mailed in or dropped off at Town Hall:
    • Fees and paper applications can be mailed to PO Box 220 Ladysmith, BC, V9G 1A2 or deposited in the drop box at City Hall (410 Esplanade Avenue) to the left of the front door facing the highway.
  • Submit your application materials by e-mail (and hard copy if required):
    • Send Business Licence applications to BL@Ladysmith.ca.
    • Development applications (permits, variances, bylaw amendments), including all required supporting documentation, must be submitted electronically in PDF format to DS@Ladysmith.ca.
    • Building Permit applications, including all required supporting documentation, must be submitted electronically in PDF format to Building@Ladysmith.ca. Please provide a physical application complete with 2 sets of hardcopy Architectural and Engineer drawings to be mailed in or dropped into the drop box at City Hall. 
    • Building permit inspections will be conducted when no one is present at the building site.  Occupied buildings will not be inspected at this time.  The Building Inspector will call the site supervisor to discuss the inspection.
    • Subdivision applications must be submitted electronically to RBouma@Ladysmith.ca.
  • Make your payment by cheque or money order:
    • Fees will only be accepted via cheque or money order payable to the Town of Ladysmith via mail or dropped into the drop box at City Hall.
