Extension provided for temporary self-isolation site on Buller Street

The COVID-19 Vulnerable Population Cowichan Task Force is being granted a two week extension by the Town to continue offering essential shelter and support services during the ongoing pandemic.

The Ladysmith Resources Centre Association is managing the local delivery of services and through the Task Force, secured additional funding from BC Housing as it develops longer term solutions with agency partners, including an achievable transition plan.

A vacant lot on Buller Street owned by the Town was selected in mid-May as a small-scale tenting site to support our local homeless population.

In recent weeks, eight local individuals have regularly used the temporary outdoor shelter which has centralized access to food, hygiene stations and outreach services.

This extension until July 15 provides additional time for the LRCA and Task Force to evaluate next steps for providing the necessary support to our community’s vulnerable people during the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

All of the available services including a dedicated security team will continue during this time.
