Ladysmith Remembrance Day closed service cancelled

The Ladysmith Legion Branch #171 has made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel its indoor service planned for Remembrance Day due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

A closed service with a limited group of invited participants had been organized for this coming Wednesday at the Legion with the intention of making a Facebook live stream available for public viewing.

In the interest of Veterans and their families, the Provincial Health Officer has requested that indoor gatherings for Remembrance Day not occur this year due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Wreath laying will still take place during the morning of Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph but no official ceremony is scheduled.

Members of the public who attend the Cenotaph to pay their respects are asked to follow guidelines for physical distancing and consider wearing a mask when approaching others outside your social bubble.

Volunteers continue to offer poppies by donation and tents are setup at 49th Parallel Grocery, Save-On Foods and downtown at First Avenue and Gatacre Street.   Please donate, if you can, and support the Legion and our Veterans.
