Ladysmith Council is seeking community members with diverse backgrounds and expertise that reflect the fabric of our community to form the Official Community Plan Steering Committee.
The Official Community Plan (OCP) Review is slated to begin in early 2021 and involve significant public engagement. Your participation in this committee will help guide the completion of an updated long-term vision for Ladysmith.
Ladysmith's OCP outlines what future development may be permitted in town, addressing appropriateness and scale, as well as guiding business and development toward desired locations.
However, an OCP is more than just buildings, it can also incorporate ecological, economic, social factors and transportation. Staff are required to reference the OCP when reviewing development applications and making recommendations to Council.
The Town is seeking representatives from a range of stakeholder groups within our community as well as members of the public willing to contribute their professional and/or volunteer expertise.
Whether you're a youth, senior, developer, business owner, or representative from the maritime, environmental stewardship, tourism, cultural, heritage conservation or housing sections, we'd like to hear about your interest in joining the OCP Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee will be made up of 17 voting members representing the backgrounds listed above, including two appointed by Stz'uminus First Nation. Two member at large positions are also available.
More details can be found in the Committee's Terms of Reference.
