Holland Creek Trail access restricted until Spring 2022

The Town of Ladysmith is informing residents of restricted access along the Holland Creek Trail over the coming months due to construction of the crossing at Colonia Drive.

The developer has informed the Town that they require this partial closure of the trail beginning on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 until Spring 2022 in order to complete the project.

A proposed construction timeline provided by the developer to the Town is available below.

As a result, access to the Holland Creek Trail at Colonia Drive will be blocked during this phase of construction to ensure your safety.

The public is encouraged to use the Mackie Road entrance to reach the trail and then turn left towards the Ladysmith RCMP detachment.  Anyone wishing to hike to Heart Lake is asked to use the Ryan Place Gate.

The Town is placing barricades at points along the trail to restrict access near the project site.   The off-limit areas are shown in red on the attached map.

We appreciate your cooperation in obeying all posted signage regardless of whether workers are present.

Holland Creek crossing construction timeline:

  • * Footing design work including creek environmental work – 3 weeks.
  • * Footing construction – 4 weeks.
  • * Multi-plate culvert install – 5 weeks.
  • * Backfill and mechanically stabilized earth wall install, utility work – 6-7 weeks.
  • * Trail reactivation and demobilize – 1 week.

Please note this construction schedule proposed by the developer may change due to unforeseen delays.
