Town supporting reconciliation through transfer of Crown water lot lease

The Town of Ladysmith is supporting the reconciliation commitments made between Stz’uminus First Nation and the Province through the transfer of the marina water lot lease (District Lot 2016) prior to the agreement end date in 2029.

The Ladysmith Maritime Society currently operates the community marina on behalf of the Town.

The Town, Stz’uminus First Nation and the Ladysmith Maritime Society continue to discuss details for completing the transfer of this Crown water lot.

Stz’uminus First Nation and the Town are working together to implement the Waterfront Area Plan, as we share a mutual interest in the environmental remediation of the harbour.

The signed reconciliation agreement between Stz’uminus First Nation and the Province in March 2022, establishes commitments to work together on community priorities and future land transfers, providing support for economic development, and funding for future environmental remediation activities in Ladysmith Harbour.

Together, the relationship between Stz’uminus and the Town is strengthened by taking incremental steps towards implementing a small part of the reconciliation framework and our shared vision for the waterfront.
