4th Avenue / Christie Road intersection closed Thursday for paving

UPDATE: The road closure is being extended until 7 am on Friday, May 26, 2023.

A contractor working on behalf of the Town of Ladysmith is completing paving at the Christie Road and 4th Avenue intersection, as well as in front of the Ladysmith Cemetery, on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

The road work requires the full closure of the intersection from 6 am to 5 pm.  Local traffic is required to detour around the area.

The contractor found last minute availability in their schedule and we apologize for any inconvenience due to the short notice.

As a result, the Town is reopening the Churchill-McKinley emergency bypass all day Thursday.  Residents in the vicinity of Forrest Field are requested to take this route to reach their destination.

Motorists travelling along 4th Avenue who are attempting to access Christie Road will be detoured down Walkem Road to 3rd Avenue.

Ladysmith Council continues to allocate funds towards infrastructure as part of its core strategic priorities for this term.

Staff are prioritizing re-pavement projects across the community based on the current condition of the road and highest use, among other considerations.
