Public input period for draft Accessibility Plan extended

Ladysmith, BC — The Town of Ladysmith is extending the public input period for feedback on the community’s first-ever draft Accessibility Plan to October 29, 2025.

The draft Accessibility Plan is available for viewing on Let’s Talk Ladysmith, with hard copies available at Frank Jameson Community Centre and City Hall beginning on Monday, October 6.

"This decision to extend the deadline was made to ensure that all residents within our community have an opportunity to provide feedback. We recognize that people have busy schedules and different ways of engaging, and by allowing additional time, we hope to hear from a broader range of voices," says Nicholas Pescod, the Town's Communication & Engagement Specialist.

Residents can share their feedback directly on Let’s Talk Ladysmith by creating an account. During registration, the Town collects basic demographic information to better understand who is participating and to ensure a diversity of voices in decision-making. All demographic data is kept confidential. Those who prefer not to register, or are unable to do so, may provide their input by e-mailing info@ladysmith.ca.

Developed by the Town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, the Accessibility Plan is a living document that will continue to grow as the Town engages with the community and adapts to emerging needs. Its scope focuses on Town-owned properties, public spaces, and facilities, with the goal of identifying, removing, and preventing barriers so all residents and visitors can fully participate in community life.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee was formed in 2023 and is a Council-appointed committee that helps the Town identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility. Made up of community members, including people with disabilities, representatives from disability-serving organizations, and Town officials, the committee provides recommendations to Council on how to make Ladysmith more inclusive.
