Ladysmith, BC — The Town of Ladysmith is moving forward with enhancing accessibility and improving the overall design of the Rotary Memorial Peace Garden & Cenotaph.
Work is currently underway to replace the existing garden beds and grass around the cenotaph with a mixture of new and reclaimed brick. Additionally, new bugle pads will also be installed. Once complete, the upgrades will create a larger, more accessible space around the cenotaph for community members to gather and reflect.
Creative Custom Services, the company that completed the original work at the cenotaph more than 20 years ago, is carrying out these latest upgrades. Work is expected to be completed by mid-October, with a new garden bed added and planted by the end of the month in time for Remembrance Day.
“The Town is pleased to move forward with accessibility improvements at the cenotaph. These upgrades will make it easier and more comfortable for veterans and community members to take part in future ceremonies," says Mayor Deena Beeston.
The Rotary Memorial Peace Garden & Cenotaph is located on Veteran’s Way, adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway.
