Partial sidewalk closure on 1st Avenue

The Town of Ladysmith is advising residents of an upcoming partial sidewalk closure on 1st Avenue.

From June 2 to June 12, the sidewalk in front of the Island Hotel (Islander) at 440 1st Avenue will be partially closed between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, to accommodate construction activities.

Crews will be removing the façade retention steel structure at the Island Hotel using the tower crane on site. In order to keep the public safe during the removal, the decision has been made to close the sidewalk during working hours.

Closure of 1st Avenue to vehicle traffic is not required, as the removed sections will be lifted out and dismantled in the rear lane work yard.

Traffic control personnel will not be on site since the road will remain open; however, barriers will be installed along the closed sidewalk areas to ensure public safety.

The Town apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the public’s patience during this work.
