About the Machine Shop
The Machine Shop was once the home of the Comox Logging & Railway Co., who built the facility in 1943 to maintain their vast fleet of locomotives, railcars and other equipment to support their operations in the region.
Most recently, the building was the base of operations for Ladysmith's Arts and Culture sector including the well-known Waterfront Gallery, as well as home to some local artists.
Contest Rules & Guidelines
Suggested names should be respectful, inclusive, and easy to pronounce and spell. Names connected to local history, geography, or the Town’s values are encouraged. Examples include landmarks, notable figures, cultural themes, or community values.
Names that are hateful, discriminatory, offensive, or include profanity will not be accepted. Commercial or business names are not permitted.
One submission per person per room is preferred. If multiple submissions are received from the same individual, the Town reserves the right to consider only the first submission received or to select which submission(s) will be included in the contest.
By submitting a name, you agree that the Town of Ladysmith may use the name for official purposes without compensation, including signage, promotional materials, online content, and social media. If selected as a winner, you also agree to have your name and image used for promotional purposes by the Town.
All submissions must be received by the deadline to be considered. Late entries will not be eligible.
The Town reserves the right to select the final room names, reject any submission that does not meet these guidelines, and make final decisions in cases of dispute, tie votes, or submissions deemed unsuitable.
