Town of Ladysmith adopts first-ever Accessibility Plan

Ladysmith, BC — The Town of Ladysmith is pleased to announce the adoption of its first-ever Accessibility Plan, following unanimous approval by Council at its Regular Meeting on January 20, 2026.

Prescribed by the Accessible BC Act and developed by the Town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC), the Accessibility Plan outlines strategies to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility across municipal spaces, services, and communications. It is a living document that will evolve over time as the Town engages with the community and adapts to emerging needs.

“The adoption of the Accessibility Plan is a major milestone for the Town of Ladysmith. It will serve as a guiding framework for Council as we work to make Ladysmith more inclusive and accessible for everyone," says Mayor Deena Beeston.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee was established by the Town in 2023 and played an important role in shaping the Town’s Accessibility Plan. The committee is made up of residents with lived experience and expertise in disability-related issues.

"The Accessibility Plan is the result of thoughtful and dedicated work by our Accessibility Advisory Committee volunteers, whose experience and commitment helped shape a practical roadmap for removing barriers in the Town's spaces, services, and communications," says Councillor and committee member, Amanda Jacobson. "Mayor and Council are grateful for their leadership and community spirit as we build a more inclusive Ladysmith and I am truly looking forward to the positive changes that will come as a result of this plan."

The Town has also launched an online feedback form that allows residents and visitors to report accessibility issues they have experienced in Ladysmith and provide suggestions on how to improve accessibility in the community.

“We are proud to offer an online tool that provides residents and visitors alike with a clear and convenient way to report accessibility concerns and recommend improvements,” says Nicholas Pescod, the Town’s Communications & Engagement Specialist.

Those who are uncomfortable or unable to use the online feedback form, can email their concerns and suggestions to accessibility@ladysmith.ca, a new Town email that is dedicated for accessibility-related matters.

The Accessibility Plan and the online feedback form are available on the Town’s website

The Town of Ladysmith respectfully acknowledges that we gather and work on the unceded territory of the Stz'uminus First Nation, the traditional keepers of this land.
