Ladysmith, BC — The Town of Ladysmith is pleased to announce the finalists for the Machine Shop naming contest.

From January 26 to February 9, the Town invited residents to help suggest names for two new public spaces—a multipurpose room and a meeting room—within the historic Machine Shop, located at the heart of Ladysmith’s Arts and Heritage Hub.

Designed for flexibility and accessibility, the two rooms will be available for public rentals and will host a wide range of arts, cultural, and community programming, including workshops, gatherings, and creative activities throughout the year.

“We sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and share their ideas,” said Nicholas Pescod, Communications & Engagement Specialist. “The finalist names reflect the history, character, and creativity of our community.”

The finalists are as follows:

Multipurpose Room

  • The Junction
  • The Forge
  • The Roundhouse Room
  • Harbourview Room
  • Arbutus Room

Meeting Room

  • The Drawing Room
  • Comox Meeting Room
  • Whistle Stop

About the Machine Shop

The Machine Shop was once the home of the Comox Logging & Railway Co., which built the facility in 1943 to maintain its fleet of locomotives, railcars, and other equipment supporting regional operations.

More recently, the building served as a base for Ladysmith’s arts and culture sector, including the Waterfront Gallery, and as a workspace for local artists.
