FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ladysmith, BC — The nomination period for candidates seeking to run for Mayor or Council in the 2026 General Local Election is now open.
Prospective candidates have until 4:00 pm on September 11 to submit a completed nomination package in order to be eligible to run in this year’s election.
The 2026 General Local Election takes place on October 17 at the Frank Jameson Community Centre from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Nomination packages are available on the Town’s website and at City Hall.
“We strongly recommend that candidates book an appointment with the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer before submitting their packages. This helps ensure that all required information is completed correctly and that there are no issues when the package is filed,” says Nicholas Pescod, the Town’s Communications & Engagement Specialist.
Completed nomination packages may be submitted to the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer by one of the following methods:
Nomination packages that are submitted by mail, fax, or email must be witnessed by a Commissioner for Taking Oaths and Affidavits for British Columbia such as a lawyer or notary public. Candidates who pursue this option are responsible for arranging this service.
The deadline to submit nomination packages is 4:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2026.
