Ladysmith, BC — Residents will have another opportunity to provide input about potential improvements for Rutti Park.
Town staff, in collaboration with the Parks, Recreation & Culture Advisory Committee, will be hosting an open house at Rutti Park on Wednesday, May 21 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
During the open house, Town staff will unveil three different concept plans for Rutti Park developed from feedback received last year. Residents can express their ideas by jotting them down on sticky notes and attaching them to maps placed throughout the park. Residents will also be able to speak with Town staff directly.
“We’re excited to share the schematic concept plans that have been shaped by community feedback so far. This open house is another opportunity for residents to help refine those ideas and ensure Rutti Park reflects the values and needs of Ladysmith,” says Kim Nakahara, the Town’s Recreation & Culture Advisory Committee Chairperson.
The Town is working towards creating a Rutti Park Implementation Plan, which once completed, will define the park’s current amenities and identify potential improvements.
In 2024, the Town took the first step towards developing that plan by conducting an online survey that allowed residents the opportunity to rank five emerging themes (Natural Environment, Sustainability, Education and Play, Celebrate Culture, and Connectivity) and provide feedback.
This is the second open house held for Rutti Park. During the first open house, which took place last June and was held on-site by Town staff, residents had the chance to share their ideas and feedback about the park’s future. That input has helped shape the design concepts that will be presented at the upcoming open house.
“We encourage all residents to attend this open house. It’s a great opportunity to have your voice heard and shape the future of an important park in our community,” says Nicholas Pescod, the Town’s Communication & Engagement Specialist.
About Rutti Park
Located in south Ladysmith at the end of Rothdale Road, Rutti Park features an open green space and pedestrian connections. The park occupies part of the former Rutti family farm, established by Hugo Rutti more than a century ago. The land remained in the family for five generations before being purchased by the Town in 2003. The Town officially dedicated the park in honour of the Rutti family in 2022 and announced plans to begin a public engagement process with the local community to identify potential amenity improvements.
