Town launches survey for Official Community Plan review

The Town of Ladysmith is launching an online survey during the first phase of our Official Community Plan (OCP) review as we collaborate with community members to develop a shared vision for Ladysmith.

The OCP review theme is Ladysmith Unparalleled 2049: Your Vision. Your Community – a reflection of our community’s exceptional spirit and commitment to climate action before the year 2050 (a target date set by the Federal Government and others for achieving net-zero emissions).

The OCP determines the type and location of homes, businesses and offices, industry, institutions, recreation, agriculture, parks, and public utilities and facilities.

The input you provide through the online survey will help shape the Plan - show us the areas where you feel connected, rank the priorities that matter to you, and tell us how you envision Ladysmith over the next 10 to 20 years.

Hard copies are also available for pickup and drop off at City Hall, Development Services and the Frank Jameson Community Centre.

"The review of Ladysmith’s OCP is an opportunity for comprehensive and adaptable community engagement on the future of Ladysmith," said Mayor Aaron Stone. “Building this shared vision for Ladysmith takes all of us talking about the issues, big and small, together. We're also excited to welcome Stz'uminus participation during this process in the spirit of reconciliation and partnership. We will build a better community for our shared future by working collaboratively together."

This first phase of the public engagement is important for gaining an understanding of the community’s priorities and establishing a baseline for an inclusive conversation over the coming months.

As we move forward over the coming months, there will be opportunities to participate at every step of the process, with activities ranging from more online surveys and virtual discussions, to interactive walking tours and in-person design workshops once it is safe to meet in person.

Ladysmith Council has appointed a Steering Committee made up of community members that will be meeting regularly to help guide the review process.
