Transfer Beach residential schools memorial update

Since being assembled in late May by the community, a memorial at Transfer Beach Park has served to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools and their families whose lives are forever changed.

The Town has consulted with Stz’uminus First Nation and will be removing the items due to ongoing inclement weather and construction of a permanent shelter for the Salish Wind canoe.

Town staff will complete the removal of the memorial this week showing dignity and respect during the process.

Items are to be safely stored and will form part of a cultural ceremony in the near future.

Anyone wishing to have an item returned that formed part of the memorial is asked to contact City Hall by emailing info@ladysmith.ca or calling 250-245-6400.
