Ladysmith PRC suspends all group indoor fitness and sport activities

Parks, Recreation and Culture group indoor fitness and sport activities remains suspended until further notice as we follow the Provincial Health Officer’s (PHO) orders and help limit the spread of COVID-19.

On Tuesday, November 24, 2020, the PHO directed that all group indoor fitness activities be cancelled while new guidelines are developed. The PHO’s orders were further to the immediate suspension of high intensity and spin classes announced last Thursday, November 19, 2020.

PRC notified patrons on Friday, November 20, 2020, that we were temporarily cancelling all group indoor fitness activities, including pickleball, at the Frank Jameson Community Centre (FJCC) for one week as we interpreted the PHO’s orders in cooperation with the BC Recreation and Parks Association and Island Health.

The PHO’s orders announced on Tuesday confirm that all group indoor fitness activities will now remain suspended until further notice. We continue to monitor the changing guidelines and will make any necessary adjustments to programs and services to keep everyone safe.

PRC is also continuing to seek clarification on aqua fitness and pickleball as it relates to these latest measures but until clarified these programs are also suspended to ensure public safety.

Once PRC receives new guidelines from the Province, we will diligently work to implement these measures into our programming and COVID-19 Safety Plan.

The FJCC Fitness Centre and swimming pool both remain open for pre-registered visits.  Patrons can visit www.reccowichan.ca to sign up for a time slot.

Please be advised that you are required to wear a mask within the facility, including the lobby, change rooms and pool deck as we follow the mandatory mask guidelines announced by the Province.

In keeping with these guidelines, patrons can temporarily remove their mask when using equipment or machines in the Fitness Centre.

Anyone who cannot put on or remove a mask on their own is also exempt.  Masks for children under the age of 2 is not recommended.

Thank you for continuing to do your part to flatten the curve.
