Ladysmith Council Notebook for August 4, 2020

Ladysmith Council held a virtual meeting on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 with a communications and engagement plan for the Housing Needs Assessment among the agenda highlights.

CVRD member municipalities are completing a Housing Needs Assessment, which is a new provincial legislative requirement that must take place every five years.  The final report will include data specific to Ladysmith and be considered as part of the Official Community Plan review.

Council received the information report which outlined the communications and engagement plan that is part of the Housing Needs Assessment.  A survey is being launched in September asking the public for feedback on questions related to the availability and affordability of housing.

Next on the agenda, Council approved bylaw amendments to defer the annual tax sale until September 2021.

In accordance with provincial legislation, a tax sale is held annually for properties with three years of delinquent taxes and/or utilities bills.

Due to COVID-19, municipalities were given the option to defer the tax sale until the following calendar year.

Ladysmith Council approved sponsoring a hole at the Rotary Clubs of Ladysmith and Chemainus 10th annual fundraising golf tournament. The tournament is scheduled for September 26 at Mount Brenton Golf Club in Chemainus.

Council will also consider entering a team at its own cost to participate in the tournament.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 7 pm.
