Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
The Town of Ladysmith is committed to promoting public safety and on Thursday, October 15 we're encouraging everyone to participate in ShakeOut BC - an event to rehearse our emergency preparedness for when it counts.
The ShakeOut BC drill takes place annually on the third Thursday in October. Whether you're at home, work, school or on the go, Ladysmith residents can together practice earthquake preparedness tomorrow at 10:15 am.
Did you know that BC is located in one of the most seismically active regions in the world with more than 3,000 earthquakes occurring every year? While most of these events are too small to ever be felt, the risk of a major natural disaster causing significant damage is real.
If you feel the beginning of an earthquake, always remember to Drop, Cover, and Hold On because it’s often hard to determine if the initial shaking will suddenly become more intense.
Following these three steps can reduce injury and even death during an earthquake.
Wondering about what to do if you’re driving in a car, out shopping or in the great outdoors when the ground begins to shake? For more information online go to ShakeOut BC on how to respond to these and other scenarios.
Seniors, people with disabilities or special needs may also have increased challenges before, during and after an earthquake. Click here for resources on how you can help a loved one be prepared and safe.
Ladysmith residents are strongly encouraged to sign up for the CivicReady emergency and routine notification service operated by the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD).
Customized communication can be delivered through email, text and/or phone call according to your selections and the address provided.
