Frank Jameson Community Centre pool set to reopen with big splash and new look

The Frank Jameson Community Centre (FJCC) pool is slated to make a big splash on November 2 when the aquatic area reopens and some new improvements are unveiled to the public.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Parks, Recreation & Culture (PRC) carefully planned a phased reopening of our facilities based on the most up-to-date recommendations from health authorities, WorkSafe BC and the BC Recreation and Parks Association.

The reopening of the pool is an exciting next step in this process and we look forward to welcoming back patrons of all ages and abilities.

During the extended pool closure, we took the unintended opportunity to renovate and enhance the pool deck and change rooms.

The wide range of enhancements to the aquatic area, include:

  • A fresh coat of paint throughout the pool area;
  • The addition of public art banners;
  • Upgraded flooring and waterproof materials on the change room walls;
  • New countertops and lighting in the women’s change room;
  • New stainless steel bathroom stall partitions and garbage cans.

Aquatic Guide now available

The 2020 Fall Aquatic Guide is now available online and contains all the relevant information on aquatic programs being offered by PRC right up until the new year.  Registration opens October 19 and we’re pleased to be able to offer a weekday schedule of length swims and aquatic fitness classes.

Please note that due to COVID-19 safety protocols all patrons are required to pre-register before visiting the FJCC. Registration can be completed online one week ahead of program times through RecCowichan or over the phone by calling 250.245.6424.

We understand that these changes involve scheduling as well as new best practices for safely exercising and recreating around others.  Parks, Recreation and Culture is committed to ensuring our facilities are safe for you to use.

We're asking that you arrive at the FJCC 'swim ready' as change rooms will not be available prior to your program.  Following your program, change rooms will have a maximum capacity of six people at a time to ensure physical distancing.

You will also be asked to wear a mask until you arrive at your designated location within the facility, and as you exit. These areas where masks will be required include hallways, the lobby, in the change rooms and anywhere else where physical distancing is not possible.

PRC has prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to help answer questions related to our COVID-19 safety plan, which we continue to adapt to meet the latest requirements from aforementioned authorities.

This information and much more can be found within the 2020 Fall Aquatic Guide.
