Masks required indoors for children ages 5 and older

The Town of Ladysmith is now requiring that anyone born in 2016 or earlier (5+ years of age) wear a mask while in all indoor public facilities as we continue to support public health and keep our community safe.

The Provincial Health Officer has updated the mandatory mask order for indoor areas and the changes are effective immediately.  Previously, the Provincial mask order applied only to those 12 years of age and older.

As a result, the Town kindly requests that anyone 5 years of age and older visiting our offices and facilities such as the Frank Jameson Community Centre, have a mask to wear when in common spaces such as on the pool deck, change rooms, and foyer.

If you forget your mask at home, Town staff will be happy to provide you with one so you can enter the building.

The Town will not be verifying the ages of patrons entering our facilities and the expectation is that all patrons are adhering to the Provincial orders.

As per the order, there are exemptions for:

  • People with health conditions or with physical, cognitive or mental impairments who cannot wear a mask
  • People who cannot remove a mask on their own
  • Children under the age of 5
  • People who need to remove their masks to communicate due to another person's hearing impairment
