The Town of Ladysmith is once again offering an exciting opportunity for area artists to create vibrant public art banner designs that will further animate our bustling downtown core.
We are seeking design submissions from emerging and professional artists of all ages from Ladysmith, Stz’uminus and the surrounding area.
The 2023 theme for Town of Ladysmith’s Community Public Art Banner Program is “Connecting Ladysmith through the Arts” and highlights art that connects people, promotes peace, creates opportunities to be together, focuses on relationships, and celebrates diversity.
The new banner program aligns with key priorities from Ladysmith Council’s Strategic Plan such as strengthening partnerships, implementing projects for enhancing downtown and rolling out recommendations from the Public Art Strategy.
The two new designs will be installed on 1st Avenue in Spring 2023. The Jason Harris banner designs installed earlier this year will be featured along the waterfront.
Over 150 banners are installed annually on light standards, beautifying the downtown during the high season for tourism and local events. Be a part of sharing our story and help us create a welcoming downtown.
Each submission package will include a complimentary pair of designs (2 banners) and
should be received by Monday, January 23, 2023, at 4 pm.
The call for submissions, entry form and guidelines are all available on the Town's website.
Two honoraria of $1,000 each will be awarded. Banners will be displayed May through October 2023.
