Town holding open house for new skatepark at FJCC

Ladysmith, BC – The Town of Ladysmith is kicking off plans for a new skatepark next to the Frank Jameson Community Centre (FJCC).

Our existing skatepark has been holding it down since 1999, back when skateboarding was all the hype — Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was released that same year! But that was 24 years ago, and while we gave it a cool makeover in 2011, it’s time for a brand new skatepark design that’s fresh, inclusive, and totally lit for skaters, bikers, and riders of all levels.

That’s why the Town is moving forward with a feasibility study to assess what’s needed now and in the future, and to get the lowdown on construction costs. We’ve also teamed up with New Line Skatepark Inc. to create a fresh design, ensuring the new skatepark will be inclusive and user-friendly, perfect for all skill levels.

As part of the project, we’re holding our first of two public workshops regarding the new skatepark at the Frank Jameson Community Centre (lower level), 810 6th Avenue, at 6:15 p.m. on October 2, 2024.

Residents are encouraged to come out and see what we’re thinking and where we want to go with the new skatepark. Feedback received at the open houses will help the Town and New Line Skatepark come up with a new skatepark design that’s not just hype for today, but for years to come.

The Town of Ladysmith respectfully acknowledges that we gather and work on the unceded territory of the Stz'uminus First Nation, the traditional keepers of this land.
